Like Kevin Smith? Check Out Cop Out!

By Aurelia Coffey

So Cop Out was not written by Kevin Smith and that makes his followers very skeptical as it was his very first movie that he directed and not written. And it is also his very first movie produced by a major movie studio. But many of you true followers can still catch those glimpses that make his movies definitely original.

So you take two different actors, completely opposite of each other, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Surprisingly their chemistry works well together as they both play cops in New York City. And of course, they have a hilarious and unusual way of working together. Mix all that together with some really great comedy, they did a very great job with this movie. If you watch carefully, it looks as if Bruce Willis is trying to contain himself from laughing so hard.

Obviously, they play police officers. They got in to a little bit of trouble after failing to catch someone during a mass neighborhood shoot out that they caused. After this they are placed on probation for a month with out pay. This causes a little bit of a problem for Jimmy, Bruce Willis' character. He needs that money to pay for his daughters very expensive wedding that is coming up. So because of all of this he decides to sell his one of a kind Andy Pafko 1957 baseball card worth a very lot of money. Later on he is robbed while trying to sell his card, by Sean William Scott's character, Dave. Remember Sean William Scott from the American Pie films? He is just as hilarious in this one as all his other films!

And guess who plays Jimmy's ex-wife's new husband, the one and only Jason Lee, that many of the Smith followers should remember from all of his other films. As usual, Lee plays the perfect scumbag! Jimmy insists on selling the card to get the money to pay for the wedding so Lee's character, Roy does not take all the credit for it.

After a many up and downs and twists and turns that no one would expect, the cops end up in a major drug ring, and to not spoil the movie, you will have to see what happens in the movie for yourself! Just think, how can a baseball card, get them into a drug ring?

For those true followers of Smith, you can still get that feel that it is one of his movies. The hilarious sexual jokes, the way it was filmed and even the music chosen to undertone the film itself, it absolutely speaks Kevin Smith. And if that is not reasoning enough for you, he chose to direct it because of the two cops relationship reminded him of Dante and Randal.

It was originally released in the United States in February 26, 2010 and then in the United Kingdom in May 21, 2010. Before it came out on DVD, it had grossed about 53 million with a budget of only 37 million to work with. It is not a huge blockbuster, but one definitely worth your time viewing.

If you want to see something original and out of the ordinary of Smith's world, seeing Cop Out is a definite. It is worth every one of the 107 minutes it is on.
