By Kimberley Stewart

Film remakes are really hit and miss, and they are becoming more and more common all the time. You see, whether it is going to be a statement of running out of quality ideas for new films or the idea that these older classics need to have a fresh spin with the new technology, the amount of remakes is on the rise. One of the recent editions to this every expanding list is A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010.

You should understand first that there are no numbers of the year in the title, however this is often put at the end so that it can be distinguished from the film of 1984. There are a few different things that this article is setting out to accomplish, the first of which will be to give you some key plot points. The second of these would be to draw some parallels between this film and the original release.

You should understand that there are actually several different things worth considering about this impressive film. One of which will be the new faces behind the title characters, and the next of these will be consistencies between this remake and the original. To get started, you are going to be given a brief plot synopsis. You need to keep in mind, though, that if you have not seen the film this might spoil smaller aspects of it for you.

The film opens on a diner in Springwood. It isn't long until you get your first look at Freddy Krueger and what he can do in this film. You also get your first stint of paranoia as Dean, the man encountering Freddy at that time has a chance to explain everything to his girlfriend, Kris. He tells her that someone in his dreams is trying to kill him and she watches him die right before her eyes.

The next thing you know, panic has set in amongst the group that you meet. Some of them are skeptical about Dean's story, others believe it completely. One thing is consistent, though. They all have dreams about a man with knives for fingers and a burned face. He is trying to kill them in their dreams. Some understand it: if you die in your dreams, you die for real.

Now the body count is rising and more and more about Krueger is coming to light. While their dreams were terrifying, they managed to give each of them pieces of the puzzle towards stopping Freddy. Nancy learns that she can pull things out of her dreams, and this spawns a showdown with the madman back where her nightmare began as a small child.

There are several scenes that people can remember from the first film in this one, including the body bag talking from down the school hall, the screaming in the middle of the classroom, and many more. This series needed a new face to give Krueger a newly terrifying persona. This man was none other than Jackie Earle Haley, of "Watchmen" and other film fame.

Learning about A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 should not be difficult. While there might be several things to know and understand, this article should give you a bit of insight towards what you need to know and appreciate about this impressive remake to the classic horror film.
